Is there a difference in butane quality?
Yes, there is a difference in the quality of butane lighter fuels for cigar lighters, but for the most part, this doesn't have to do with their influence on the cigar itself, but on the lighter that burns it. For example, the lighter could be running in a chamber that is too big or too small, and could have a tendency to overheat. If you're going to be smoking your cigars in a humidor, look for a lighter that is made from nickel, and the lighter should be filled with heat resistant crystals.
Why is refined butane better?
Refined butane is simply butane that has been filtered thoroughly to remove impurities (among other things, like water). Premium butane is simply butane that has been filtered and is of consistent purity. The refined butane is the better product.
What is the best butane for extraction?
There are two main extraction solvents (butane and propane) that can be used for extraction. In general, extraction using a propane solvent is less expensive than using a butane solvent. The big difference in cost is that propane is more volatile, which means that it evaporates faster. Propane will therefore degrade more rapidly than butane. Propane is great for extraction of floral and citrus based products. Butane is a great extraction solvent to use for both floral and citrus based products.
