Bike computers are relatively new but are growing in popularity among cyclists. Traditional speedometers were the only way of measuring how fast you were going and how it correlated to your distance traveled. Now you can measure and analyze your performance with a bike computer.
A wireless bike odometer is a little gadget that mounts in the handlebars of your bike and measures, among other things, speed, distance, and other data about your ride, like calories burned, etc. There are two main types of bike computers: wired and wireless.
The main advantage of wired bicycle computers is that they can be monitored from the handlebars while you ride. The disadvantage is that they have cords and require a certain amount of installation—usually above the stem where the handlebars meet the stem.
The main advantage of wireless bicycle computers is that they can be easily mounted on your handlebars, whether you have a flat mount or a curved handlebar. If you have a flat-mount bike, you can simply slide the device onto the outside of the handlebar. If you have a curved handlebar, you can use a Velcro strap or similar item to hold it on. You may also choose to use a magnet to hold it in place. Once it is securely mounted, you can turn on the bike computer and begin your ride. The main disadvantage is that they do not have as much functionality and can’t be monitored while you are riding.
